Athenas Finish 22nd At NCAA's, Tavé Earns All-American Honors

The women's cross country team finished 22nd at the NCAA Division III Championships in Cleveland, OH on Saturday.  Jennifer Tavé (SO, St. Germain, France) finished 27th overall to earn All-American honors.  The Athenas, who finished third at the West Region meet, scored 485 points and improved one spot among the region teams beating Whitman College which finished 25th.

Tavé moved up in the 280-runner field throughout the race and became the 11th CMS female to earn All-American honors.  CMS has now had 17 women All-Americans including 16 NCAA All-Americans (tied for ninth among all schools).  Tavé ran 22:43.8 for the 6K (3.73 mile) course.  Julia Rigby (SO, Tustin) also had an outstanding race improving from 11th at the Region meet to be the sixth region finisher here.  She was 71st overall in 23:20.4.  Breanna Deutsch (SO, Sammamish, WA) was 149th in 24:01.9 with Laura Wyatt (FY, La Jolla) 201st in 24:34.6 and Ashley Scott (JR, Battle Creek, MI) 214th in 24:44.2 rounding out the scorers.  After removing the individuals, CMS had team scoring places of 22, 48, 104, 150 and 163.  Aubrey Zimmerling (FR, Lakewood, CO) and Kate Crawford (FR, Seattle, WA) were the sixth and seventh runners for the Athenas in 263rd and 278th (25:31.9 and 26:46.8).  CMS was one of only two teams in the race without a senior running and one of only five competing with three first years.

This was the team's 12th team appearance at the NCAA Championships which is tied for 15th most among Division III schools.
