Stanford Results Improve CMS’ National Rankings

The men's and women's cross country teams both improved in the regional and national rankings after solid performances at the Stanford Invitational.  The Stags are now ranked first in the West Region and 24th nationally after finishing 12th out of 18 scoring teams (there were 23 teams with entries in each race) with 310 points.  The Athenas are second in the region and tied for 21st nationally after finishing 16th out of 22 scoring teams with 417 points.  The men were second regionally and 30th nationally last week while the women were tied for second regionally and 24th nationally last week.

The Stags were led by Kramer Straube (JR, Menlo Park) who turned his best collegiate performance.  He finished 34th in the 169-runner field while setting a 30 second personal best for 8000 meters (4.97 miles) of 25:12.  This time is tied for 11th best in CMS history.  Straube would have been a scoring member of every team in the meet except the two nationally-ranked Division I teams.  The other scorers for the Stags were Brian Sutter (FR, Monroe, WA, 25:28), Georgi Dinolov (JR, Santa Cruz, 25:43), Kris Brown (JR, Seattle, WA, 26:16) and Florian Scheulen (SR, Encinitas, 26:31).  Of the 11 teams in front of CMS, nine were Division I and the other two were nationally-ranked Division II teams.

The Athenas were once again led by Jennifer Tavé (SO, St. Germain, France) who finished 47th in the 179-runner field with a personal best for 6000 meters (3.73 miles) of 22:14.  This time is eighth best in CMS history.  The other scorer for the Athenas were Julia Rigby (SO, Tustin, 22:47), Ashley Scott (JR, Battle Creek, MI, 23:23), Kate Crawford (FR, Seattle, WA, 23:46) and Lacey McLean (SO, Gig Harbor, WA, 23:56).  Personal best times were set by Scott, Crawford and by Breanna Deutsch (SO, Sammamish, WA, 24:37).  The 15 teams in front of CMS included 13 Division I teams and two nationally-ranked Division II teams.
