Athenas Finish 20th at NCAA Championships

The women's cross country team matched their pre-race ranking in finishing 20th at the NCAA Division III Championships in Hanover, Indiana on Saturday.  The SCIAC and West Region Champion Athenas scored 434 points in the meet which featured 32 teams and 280 competitors.

Racing in 29 degree temperatures, the team was led by Evelyn Ross (SR, Iowa City, IA).  This was her third appearance at the national meet and she recorded her best ever finish of 50th while running a personal best of 22:02 for the six kilometer distance.  Also recording personal best times were Katie Harris (SR, Bremerton, WA) in 22:09 (67th) and Allysa Rueschenberg (JR, Avila Beach) in 23:02 (169th).  Julia Rigby (FY, Tustin) finished 125th in 22:39, Rachael Martin (SR, Pasadena) was 213th in 23:25, Lacey McLean (FR, Gig Harbor, WA) was 239th in 23:47 and Ashley Scott (SO, Battle Creek, MI) was 259th in 24:09.

This was the Athenas 11th team appearance at the NCAA Championships.  This is the most ever by a team from the West Region and the 16th most of the 393 schools in Division III.
