Both Cross Country Teams Nationally Ranked
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their preseason national rankings today and both CMS' men's and women's cross country teams are included. The men's team is ranked 28th and the women's team is ranked 33rd. In the regional rankings, which were announced yesterday, CMS is ranked second on the men's side and third on the women's side.
The Stags finished fifth in the region last year and return five of their top seven runners including their top two in Brian Kopczynski (SO, Coto de Caza) and Chris Gurney (SR, Ventura). The Athenas were seventh a year ago and return six of their top seven also including their top two in Evelyn Ross (SR, Iowa City, IA) and Taylor Smiley (SO, Beaverton, OR). Both Kopczynski and Ross qualifed individually for the NCAA Championships in 2007.
