Even After Three Matches Back-to-Back, Athenas Remain Undefeated 4-0

This past weekend, the CMS Women's Tennis team faced off in 3 matches over the course of just 2 days. Beginning on Friday, February 19th at 2pm, the Athenas faced off against local team Whittier College and won the match 9-0 with ease. The three doubles matches went fairly quickly. In singles, though #6 Alexandra Feldhausen was off to a slow-start in her first set trailing 1-4, she warmed-up to her opponent and then won 5 games in-a-row to take the set 6-4. She took the next set 6-1 with ease. The rest of the singles matches were won quickly by our Athenas.

Early the following Saturday morning, the Athenas went up against the University of La Verne at 9:30 am. As the teams the Athenas have been playing are getting progressively tougher, our ladies refused to even let up one set to the Univ. of La Verne team. The doubles teams conquered again with ease and the singles matches were quickly on their way. Playing at #5, Ariel Katz had the toughest match of the day in frequent exchange of games and points against her opponent Jenn Baca. The first set went to a tie-breaker that got to 9-9 before Ariel finally found the opportunity to win two points to take the set 7-6. The second set was still difficult but Ariel got a break of serve at 4-4 and won the second set 6-4. It was the longest match of the day and the Athenas achieved another 9-0 victory.

After a brief lunch break, the Athenas were immediately on to play against the Westmont Warriors. This match was not as easily won, but the Athenas still managed a 6-3 victory with only one loss in doubles and two in singles.

The Athenas are 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference. Find them playing against Occidental College next Saturday, February 27th at 11 am.
