Athenas Increase Lead At SCIAC Championships

CMS extended their lead on the second day of the 2010 SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships at Long Beach. CMS has 764 points and are now 187 points ahead of their main rivals, the University of Redlands. The Athenas won five of the eight events on the day and set four meet records and a conference record.

The Athenas started off the evening session with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Elsa Cheng (FR, Cupertino), Annie Perizzolo (JR, Aurora, CO), Katie Bilotti (SO, Orinda [pictured]) and Emma Jones (SO, Eugene, OR) recorded a time of 1:43.60, an NCAA ‘A’ qualifying time and a CMS and SCIAC record, and won by 6.5 seconds. Emily Ott (FR, Libertyville, IL) won the 400 individual medley, Bilotti won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and Perizzolo won the 100 breaststroke. Bilotti set meet records in both events with times of 55.68 (fly) and 57.06 (back). Perizzolo set a meet record with a time of 1:04.26.

Second place finishers for CMS included Perizzolo in the 400 IM, Jones in the 200 free, Tessa Dover (JR, San Luis Obispo) in the 100 back and the team of Olivia Graham (FR, Mercer Island, WA), Kristina Norrgard (SO, Old Greenwich, CT), Carliann Brashier (JR, Highlands Ranch, CO) and Jones in the 800 freestyle relay. Third place finishers included Carmen Lundell (FR, Wayzata, MN) in 1 meter diving, Heidi Wolfgruber (JR, New Canaan, CT) in the 400 IM, Elica Sharifnia (SO, Beaverton, OR) in the 100 breast and Jenni Rinker (JR, Eagle River, AK) in the 100 back.

NCAA qualifying marks were achieved by Jones in the 200 free, Bilotti and Cheng in the 100 fly, Perizzolo in the 100 breast, Bilotti, Dover, Rinker and Cheng in the 100 back and Ott, Perizzolo and Wolfgruber in the 400 IM.
