Athenas Lead After Day One Of SCIAC Championships

The seven-time defending SCIAC Champion Athenas lead after the first day of the 2010 SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships at Long Beach. CMS has 315 points and are 49 points ahead of their main rivals, the University of Redlands. CMS did not win any of the four individual events on the first day, but won both relays with CMS and SCIAC record times.

The Athenas started off the evening session with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Jenni Rinker (JR, Eagle River, AK), Elica Sharifnia (SO, Beaverton, OR), Katie Bilotti (SO, Orinda) and Emma Jones (SO, Eugene, OR) recorded a time of 1:36.05, an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time. CMS closed the evening session with a win in the 400 medley relay. The team of Rinker, Annie Perizzolo (JR, Aurora, CO), Bilotti and Jones recorded a time of 3:46.24, an NCAA ‘A’ qualifying time, and won by almost 10 seconds. In the relays, Bilotti recorded a CMS record for a 50 free split (23.33) and Perizzolo recorded a CMS record for a 100 breast split (1:01.40).

Second place finishers for the Athenas included Tara McIntyre (FR, Shoreline, WA) in the 500 free, Tessa Dover (JR, San Luis Obispo) in the 200 individual medley, Bilotti in the 50 free and Carmen Lundell (FR, Wayzata, MN) in 3 meter diving. Third place finishers included Whitney Dawson (SO, Portland, OR) in the 500 free, Amy Tresenrider (SO, Sebastopol) in the 200 IM and Rinker in the 50 free. NCAA qualifying marks were achieved by Bilotti, Rinker and Jones in the 50 free and Dover in the 200 IM.
