Athenas To Compete In NCAA Championships
CMS will travel to Redlands on Saturday, November 15 to take on Hardin-Simmons University at 5:00 in a first round matchup of the NCAA Championships. The winner of this game will play the winner of the UC Santa Cruz @ Redlands game on Sunday, November 16 at 6:00. Tickets for all games are $6 for adults, $3 for students (with ID) and seniors and $2 for children 3-12.
CMS qualified for the Championships by winning the SCIAC Tournament last weekend. After tieing Cal Lutheran 0-0 (2OT), the Athenas advanced to the final via penalty kick shootout 3-2. We beat Redlands in the final 1-0 for our second tournament title in three years. CMS is 11-8-1 overall and finished 7-5 in SCIAC play.
Hardin-Simmons qualified by winning the American Southwest Conference Tournament last weekend. The Cowgirls beat UT-Tyler 2-0 in the semifinals and UT-Dallas 2-0 in the final. This was their sixth straight tournament title. Hardin-Simmons is 15-3-3 overall and finished 12-0-1 in ASC play.
CMS is led on offense by Laura Hagen (SO, Bellevue, WA) and Giselle Galanto (JR, Duarte). Hagen leads the team in both goals (14) and assists (6) while Galanto is second in both categories (seven and five). Camila Friedman-Gerlicz (JR, Santa Fe, NM) had been outstanding in goal with 125 saves and five shutouts. All three players were selected First Team All-SCIAC.
HSU is led on offense by Morgan Lloyd and Jordan Morley. Lloyd has 15 goals and five assists and Morley has 11 and four. Amy Kuykendall led the Cowgirls with nine assists. Christi Carr is team's main goalkeeper. She has recorded 68 saves and seven shutouts.
