Athenas Fall To Knights In NCAA Sectional
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps lost to Carleton College 1-0 on Friday in
an NCAA Tournament Sectional Semifinal at Wheaton, IL. It was
the first appearance in a sectional for both teams. Carleton
improved to 18-5 while the Athenas season ended at 12-9-2.
The Knights advanced to the Sectional Final on Saturday to take on
the host Wheaton College Thunder.
The Athenas dominated play for the majority of the game, but were
unable to capitalize with a goal. Carleton’s Lily
VanderStaay broke a scoreless tie when she scored 37:36 into the
match to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. It would be enough to lead
Carleton to Saturday night’s meeting with Wheaton.
Carleton held a 12-11 edge in shots with five of their shots on
goal as opposed to six for CMS. Carleton goalkeeper Kate
Trenerry made six saves in recording the shutout. CMS goalkeeper
Camila Friedman-Gerlicz (JR, Santa Fe, NM) made four saves for the
Athenas.
