Poets Made It Tough On The Road

On Saturday CMS beat the Whittier Poets 62-56. The Athenas came out strong against the Poets, running up a 15-point lead. However towards the end of the game, the opponent got a 13-5 run. The Athenas showed poise instead of folding under the pressure that Whittier put on and were able to hold on to the lead till the final buzzer.

The opponents were led by Freshman guard Navales-Lugta, who scored 17 points followed by their junior center Coon who had 15 points.

The Athenas were once again led by starting center Frannie Hemmelgarn, who finished the half with a perfect 6-6 shooting and finished the game with a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman point guard Kim Scamman also made a strong contribution with 13 points.

This game leaves the Athenas 4-2 in conference play.


Senior Jennifer Ringoen's defense made it tough for the opponent to get an easy shot off.


Great team effort on the defensive end helped the Athenas to a win last Saturday.
