Athenas Win First Game Of Season

The women's basketball team won their final preseason game 66-53 over Bryn Mawr College with an excellent all-around effort.  The team is now 1-9 overall and begins SCIAC play on Thursday at Redlands.  CMS' next home game is Saturday.  They will play Occidental in the first half of a doubleheader with the men.  The Athenas play at 5:00 with the Stags following at 7:30.

CMS jumped out to an early 12-5 lead before the Owls fought back to tie the game at 14.  The game was tied three more times in the first half, but Bryn Mawr never took the lead.  The Athenas led at the half 33-30.  CMS made 12 of their first 16 shots of the second half to blow open the game.  They led by as many as 20 before the Owls scored seven points in garbage time for a final score of 66-53.

Cori Williams (FR, Laguna Hills) led the team with a career high 15 points.  Jennifer Osgood (SO, Vashon, WA [pictured]) had her first career double-double with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.  The Athenas had four players in double figures in points as Sarah Beattie (FR, Quechee, VT) had 11 and Mica Nereu (SR, Redwood City) had 10.  Camille Sheffield (SO, Gambier, OH) had a career high five assists to lead the team.

Katie Driscoll led four Owls scoring in double-figures with 12 points.
