Athenas Finish First Half In Second
The women's basketball team concluded the first round of SCIAC play with a 72-68 win at Cal Lutheran on Thursday evening. The win improved their record to 11-7 overall and 6-1 in SCIAC play while Cal Lutheran fell to 9-7 and 5-2. CMS is in second place in the SCIAC standings and will host first place La Verne on Saturday at 5:00.
Jocelyn Woolsey (SO, Piedmont) scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Athenas in addition to having seven rebounds and three assists. Lana Young (SR, Honolulu, HI) had 18 points and a season-high eight assists. Cameron Hanson (FR, Rockville, MD) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Mary Placido led the Regals with 20 points.
The teams traded leads in the first half and neither team led by more than four until late in the half when the Athenas went on a 13-0 run to take a nine point lead. CMS built their six point halftime lead to as much as 10 in the second half before Cal Lutheran rallied. The Regals cut the lead to one three times in the last six minutes, but the Athenas responded by scoring each time.
