Shianne Smith, a recent graduate from Cal State Los Angeles joins the program for her first year.  Smith will be assisting in coaching the sprints, relays, and multis.

Smith made her mark on the record books during her time at Cal State LA.  Smith earned the CCAA Newcomer of the Year award in 2008.  She ended her season with three All-America awards with season top marks in 4 x 100m relay (45.63), 4 x 400m relay (3:45.01) and posting a school record in the heptathlon (5079 pts). She was also a national qualifier in the 200m, Long Jump and Pentathlon. She earned back to back All-Academic awards and won seven All-CCAA awards. She currently holds the ninth-best jump (19-6) on the CSLA all-time list

Smith, a Bermuda native holds the national record in the Heptathlon (5127) and has represented her country in numerous international competitions.  In 2007, she took third in the 200m and second in the 400m at the Small Island Games in Rhodes, Greece. In 2009, she placed third in heptathlon at the CAC Senior Championships in Havana, Cuba and fourth in the long jump in the Grand Prix Invite in Bogota, Columbia. 

Smith graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a B.S in Kinesiology with an emphasis in physical education.  She is currently training and plans to compete for her country at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
