Goldhammer Wins Four World Titles At Master Championships

John Goldhammer, CMS' head cross country coach and assistant track coach, won four titles in his age group at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sacramento.  On Friday he won the weight throw, on Monday he won the hammer throw, on Tuesday he won the shot put and on Saturday he won the weight pentathlon.

Competing in the 55-59 age category, Goldhammer set the American record in the 25-pound weight throw on Friday with a mark of 18.94 meters (62-1.75) which won the competition by over six feet.  After qualifying first in the hammer throw prelims on Saturday, he won the hammer final with a mark of 53.37m (175-1) which won by almost nine feet. After automatically qualifying for the shot final on Monday with one throw, he won the final with a mark of 14.36m (47-1.5).  He won the competition by almost a foot.

He finished sixth in Wednesday's discus throw final with a mark of 45.81m (150-3).  He concluded the championships by smashing the American record in the weight pentathlon which is a one-day competition featuring all five throwing implements.  He scored 4602 points to break the old record by 335.  He finished first in all five events with marks of 52.62m (172-8) in the hammer, 13.93m (45-8.5) in the shot, 46.17m (151-6) in the discus, 41.11m (134-10) in the javelin and 18.84m (61-9.75) in the weight.
