Track & Field Teams Ranked Among Nation's Best

The CMS track & field teams are both ranked among the nation’s best in two separate national rankings.  In the national dual meet rankings, the Stags are ranked sixth and the Athenas are ranked ninth.  In the national team rankings, the men’s team is ranked 10th and the women’s team is ranked 14th.  The Stags are the third team in the West region in both rankings and the top ranked team in the SCIAC in the dual meet rankings.  The Athenas are the region’s top ranked team in the national team rankings and are the third team in the West in the dual meet rankings.

The national dual meet rankings, previously referred to as the power rankings, have been compiled since 1999 and CMS has consistently ranked among the nation’s best.  The Stags have finished in the top 25 all, but one of those eleven years with five final rankings in the top 10 with a best of fourth.  The Athenas have been ranked in the top 25 eight times with a best finish of eighth.  The national team rankings are new this season and make use of the new Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) which compiles the best marks for all NCAA athletes in the country.

The national team rankings are determined by a mathematical formula using the TFRRS lists and serve as an indicator of those who have the best chances and deepest rosters to compete as the nation’s best at the NCAA Division III Championships.  The national dual meet rankings are determined with a point system for the team’s top two athletes in each event with the restriction that an athlete can only score in a maximum of three events.  These rankings are an indicator of how teams would compete in conference championship meets.
