Multi-Eventers Have Their Day In The Sun
On two beautiful days in the San Fernando valley competing at Cal State Northridge, Ryan Pittman (SR, Ashland ,OR) and Reny Colton (SO, Glendale) both reached NCAA provisional qualifying marks in their events, the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively.
Pittman, a 2008 All-American, reached a personal best point total of 6,388 by performing well in all 10 events and setting three all-time bests in individual events including the 100 meters (11.65), long jump (21-0) and 110 High Hurdles (15.84). His mark is third on the CMS Top 10 List. He placed fourth in the field of 11 starters.
Colton, competing in her first official heptathlon, set personal bests in four of the seven events on her way to scoring 4309. Her score placed her third on the CMS Top 10 List. In an event dominated by Division I athletes, Colton placed sixth out of 14 finishers. She established bests in four of the events including the 100 hurdles (15.81), shot put (28-11.25), javelin (87-0) and 800 meters (2:32.02). Colton, a horizontal jump specialist, has been making good improvement as a heptathlete, with hopes of scoring over 4,600 in this, her first year in the event. The next multi for these two teammates will be the Mt. SAC Invitational on April 14 and 15.
