Stags Win 19th Straight Track & Field Title

The men's track & field team finished first at the SCIAC Championships at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday and earned their 19th consecutive SCIAC title.  The Stags scored 175 points to outscore the second place Bulldogs of Redlands by 57 points.  The Athenas scored 88 points to finish fourth in the women's competition.

The Stags were led by three SCIAC individual champions: Florian Scheulen (SR, Encinitas) in the 5000 meters, Warren Brown-Pounds (SR, Bow, WA) in the pole vault and Grant Heffernan (JR, Irvine) in the discus throw.  Brown-Pounds won his fourth consecutive title while Scheulen and Heffernan each earned his first.  CMS also had second place finishes in eight of the 19 events including the 1500 meters (Georgi Dinolov [JR, Santa Cruz]), 400 intermediate hurdles (Ryan Weaver [JR, Monument, CO]), high jump (Ryan Pittman [SR, Ashland, OR]), pole vault (Matt Streshinsky [JR, Aliso Niguel]), shot put (Taylor Berliant [SR, Sudbury, MA]), hammer throw (Berliant) and both the 4 x 100 (Jake Weyerhaeuser [FR, Lakewood, WA]-Kyle Hansen [FR, Issaquah, WA]-Jon Hubbard [SR, San Marino]-Jeff Macdonald [FR, Arcadia]) and 4 x 400 (Hubbard-Jeff Vignos [FR, Orinda]-Ari Davis [FR, Boulder, CO]-Macdonald) relays.

The Athenas had individual wins by Carmen Lundell (FR, Wayzata, MN) in the 400 hurdles and Reny Colton (SO, Glendale) in the long jump.  Colton also finished second in the 100 hurdles while Breanna Deutsch (SO, Sammamish, WA) finished second in the 5000 meters and Rebecca Young (SO, Dulles, VA) finished second in the 400 hurdles.
