Pittman Hits Auto Mark In Decathlon At Claremont Classic
Ryan Pittman (SR, Ashland, OR) scored 6749 in the decathlon at the Claremont Classic to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. His score was a personal best by 361 points and is second best in CMS history. He is currently ranked fifth in the nation.
Pittman had an incredible event with decathlon bests for himself in eight of the ten events. He set all-time personal best in the 100 meters (11.33), long jump (21-9), high jump (6-5), 110 hurdles (15.46) and javelin throw (145-6). He had decathlon bests in the shot put (41-3.75), pole vault (11-9.75) and discus throw (117-9). He also had good performances in the other two events: 400 meters (51.43) and 1500 meters (4:39.74). The event was the culmination of four years of work in the multi-events and a graduation gift of sorts for himself. He graduated today from Claremont McKenna College.
In the Heptathlon, Reny Colton had three personal bests: the 100 hurdles (15.51), 200 meters (26.38) and shot put (30-9.75). She had a solid score of 3700 through six events, but was unable to finish the 800 meters due to a sore ankle. Her mark of 4433 from earlier this season is currently ranked tenth in the country.
Pittman and Colton will compete in their respective multi-event competitions at the Division III Championships at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH on May 27-28.
