Colton Continues Improvement, Competes Well at California Invitational Heptathlon
AZUSA, CA -- Reny Colton (SO Glendale) competed in the California Invitational Heptathlon at Azusa Pacific University and scored 4,433 points to place 13th out of a field of 38 athletes. In the process of improving over her 4,269 points scored in March at CSUN, she recorded three all-time individual personal bests in three of her events.
On the first day of the competition, she had marks of 15.94 (100 hurdles) then High Jumped 5’3.25” which topped her previous best of 5’2” the week before. In her third event, the shot put, she posted a personal record of 30’61/2”. She then ended with a 26.81 200 meter time, which was timed with a 3.3mps headwind.
The second day stared off with a 18’7” in the Long Jump, which was a 5” PR and was also an individual qualifying mark for Division III Championships and equals the second best performance in CMS History. She finished off the meet with an 80’8” Javelin and a 2:35.40 800 meters.
The competition was won by Jenny Soceka of the University of Wisconsin with a point total of 4,971.
Colton was the only Division III athlete featured in the competition. Colton will compete on Saturday as she leads the Athenas into a SCIAC competition versus Occidental, Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer. The meet will be hosted by Occidental College and will start at 11am.
