Russell Page, a freshman at CMC, is looking forward to his first college track season and only his third track season. He is a recent convert to distance running, having run only in the second half of his high school career at Albuquerque High School.
In Albuquerque, Page was the valedictorian of his high school
class, a volunteer in many political campaigns, and the lead singer
in his punk rock band Emergency Ahead. In Claremont, he remembers
his beautiful home state of New Mexico by incorporating his
imported green chile into dining hall meals.
He is a prospective PPE major at CMC who enjoys the academics and
the atmosphere the Claremont Colleges provide. Outside of track, he
is a copy editor for the Claremont Portside, a member of SPEAR and
the College Democrats, and a tutor for elementary school
children.
Page finished in the top five in the 800, 1600, and 3200 at
District for track and went to two State cross country meets with
AHS. He has PRs of 055.9 in the 400m, 2:03 in the 800m, 4:41 in the
1600m, and 10:33 in the 3200m.
This season, he hopes to build off of a successful first cross
country season with CMS in which he ran better than expected. Given
his lack of running experience, he will use this season to learn
which events are his best fits (either the 5000m or the 1500m), and
he will try to compete hard enough to help his CMS team.
