Alex Poyhonen is from Del Mar, CA.  His best results are 15:50 at Mt. SAC and a 4:23 in the 1600 meters.  He will taking a combined major of Legal Studies and Psychology.  He went to La Jolla Country Day High School and is now attending CMC.  He chose Claremont McKenna because of the tight-knit community, strong academics and competitive DIII running squad.  In high school, he was four-time cross country MVP, one-time track MVP and Athlete of the Year as a junior.  He has been running for five years and runs to push himself to the limit, help his team win and to learn valuable life lessons.  Alex's parents are John and Wendy Poyhonen.  In addition to running, he also played soccer for 12 years.  Steve Prefontaine is his hero and a poster of Pre adorn his dorm room.
