CMS Men And Women Finish 7-0 At SCIAC Multi-Duals

The men's and women's track and field teams both finished 7-0 at the SCIAC Multi-Dual meet at Redlands on Saturday evening.  This is the third straight years that both teams have gone undefeated at this meet.  The men improved their SCIAC dual meet record to 117-2 over the last 17 years while the women are 88-3 in the last 13 years.

The Stags, the 16-time defending SCIAC Champions, won all seven meets handily.  The closest meet (103-60) was with the host school, University of Redlands, which was 6-1 overall.  California Lutheran University was 5-2 followed by Occidental College (4-3), Pomona-Pitzer (3-4), University of La Verne (2-5), Caltech (1-6) and Whittier College (0-7).

The Athenas, two-time defending SCIAC Champs, were pushed in three of the seven meets.  The closest meet (86-77) was with Occidental College.  CMS also had good competitions with California Lutheran University (89-73) and University of Redlands (93-70).  Redlands finished second at 6-1 followed by Cal Lutheran (5-2), Occidental (4-3), Pomona-Pitzer (3-4), Whittier College (2-5), Caltech (1-6) and University of La Verne (0-7).

CMS won seven of the 19 events in the men's competition including Ryan Martin (SR, Redondo Beach) in the 400 meters, Georgi Dinolov (FR, Capitola [pictured left]) in the 1500 meters, Brian Kopczynski (FR, Coto de Caza) in the steeplechase, Jeff Clark (JR, Los Altos) in the high jump, Warren Brown-Pounds (SO, Bow, WA) in the pole vault, Grant Heffernan (FR, Newport Beach) in the shot put and Andrew Bogrand (JR, Portland, OR) in the javelin throw.  The Stags also had seven second place and six third place finishes.

CMS won three events in the women's competition including Evelyn Ross (JR, Iowa City, IA [pictured right]) in the steeplechase and 5000 meters and Mary Moore (JR, Yamhill, OR) in the hammer throw.  The Athenas also had three seconds and five thirds in the meet.

Moore qualified for the NCAA Championships in the hammer with a personal best throw of 163-2.  The men's 4 x 400 relay of Jon Hubbard (SO, Pasadena)-Kevin Williams (SR, Berkeley)-Matt Ezer (JR, Honolulu, HI)-Martin) also qualified with a season best time of 3:16.30.
