California/Nevada Championships
The Stags placed ninth and the Athenas placed 13th at the California/Nevada Championships in Fresno over the weekend. The meet is open to all four-year schools in California and Nevada. There were 10 Division I schools, seven from Division II, five from Division III and three from the NAIA. CMS was the top Division III school for both men and women.
The men scored 27.5 points and women scored 12 and both teams were led by a second place performance. Andrew Bogrand (JR, Portland, OR) finished second in the javelin and Evelyn Ross (JR, Iowa City, IA [pictured]) finished second in the steeplechase. Both athletes achieved NCAA-qualifying marks with their performances.
Additional scoring performances for the men were Ryan Martin (SR, Redondo Beach), fourth in the 400, Jeff Clark (JR, Los Altos), fourth in the long jump and Warren Brown-Pounds (SO, Bow, WA ), tied for ninth in the pole vault. The 4 x 100 relay [Martin-Kevin Williams (SR, Oakland)-Noah Goldberg (JR, Seattle, WA)-Matt Ezer (JR, Honolulu, HI)] finished sixth and the 4 x 400 relay [Jon Hubbard (SO, Pasadena)-Martin-Ezer-Williams] finished seventh. Kristen Crouse (SR, Woodinville, WA) finished sixth in the javelin for the women.
CMS top-10 performances were recorded by Bogrand: 202-4, third all-time, Crouse: 121-10, seventh all-time and Clark: 22-9, eighth all-time.
CMS returns to action this weekend in the Divisional Challenge at UC San Diego. The team will compete against UCSD (Division II), Point Loma Univeristy (NAIA) and Cuyamaca College (JC). Field events begin at 11:30 with running events starting at 12:30.
