Athenas Win Second Straight Title

The women's track & field team dominated at the SCIAC Championships at Whittier on Monday to win their second straight and 10th overall title. The Athenas scored 204 points to runner-up Redlands' 88. CMS was the only team to score points in all 19 events. 18 different individuals scored for the team with seven firsts, nine seconds, five thirds, six fourths, three fifths and one sixth.

CMS had seven SCIAC Champions: Shelby Cooley (SO, Tacoma, WA) in the 400 meters, Evelyn Ross (SO, Iowa City, IA) in the 1500 meters and steeplechase, Breanne Diaz (SR, King City) in the 400 hurdles, Lauren Hodill (SR, Alameda) in the high jump and the 4 x 100 [Cooley, Hodill, Diaz, Camille Butts (JR, Ontario)] and 4 x 400 [Cooley, Alana MacWhorter (Poulsbo, WA), Diaz, Butts] relay teams. Ross set the meet record in the steeple. Diaz also won the 400 hurdles in 2005.

Second place finishers (Second Team All-SCIAC) included Butts in the 200 and 400 meters, Katie Mouzakis (SR, Alta Loma) in the steeplechase, Hodill in the 100 hurdles, long jump and triple jump, Amy Heidbreder (SR, St. Peters, MO) in the pole vault and Mary Moore (SO, Yamhill, OR) in the discus and hammer throws.
