Berliant, Ross Earn All-America Honors

Taylor Berliant (SO, Sudbury, MA) and Evelyn Ross (SR, Iowa City, IA) earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships in Marietta, OH. Berliant finished third in the hammer throw and Ross finished seventh in the steeplechase.

Berliant was the 12th seed entering the meet and was in third place after the preliminary round with a personal best throw of 181-4.  He improved on his final throw of the competition with a mark of 183-1.  That mark is the seventh best in CMS history and ninth best in SCIAC history.  Berliant, who won the hammer and the shot put at the SCIAC Championships in April, was competing in his first national competition.

Ross earned All-American honors for the second straight year.  She ran in the top eight the entire race and finished at 10:41.83.  The time was her fastest of the season and the second fastest ever run by a SCIAC athlete (behind her own time at last year's NCAA's).  Ross, the three-time SCIAC Champion in the steeple, was competing in her third NCAA Championships.  She finished ninth in 2007 and fourth in 2008.

CMS was also represented at the meet by Warren Brown-Pounds (JR, Bow, WA) in the pole vault, Jeff Clark (SR, Los Altos) in the high jump and Mary Moore (SR, Yamhill, OR) in the hammer throw.  Brown-Pounds finished 11th with a vault of 15-7.25, Clark tied for 12th with a jump of 6-6 and Moore was 14th with a throw of 157-11.

In the team standings, CMS finished tied for 49th in the men's competition with six points and tied for 67th with two points.
