Softball Wins First NCAA Playoff Game
CMS achieved a program milestone on Thursday with their first win in the NCAA Championships. The Athenas beat Central College (IA) 8-4 in the Indianola, IA regional. CMS, the #4 seed in the regional, will face #1 seed Linfield at 4:00 Central on Friday.

Softball Qualifies For NCAA Tournament
After a school record 33 regular season wins, the softball team was selected for the 60-team NCAA Championship field for the second consecutive season on Monday. CMS (33-8) will open the double-elimination regional against Central College (30-12) at 2:00 Central on Thursday, May 13.

Dannaway, Pera Earn Academic All-District Honors
Steve Dannaway (SR, Honolulu, HI) and Gizelle Pera (JR, Los Angeles) were voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District baseball and softball teams, respectively, which were released today.

The Athenas clinched their first SCIAC title in almost 11 years after grabbing two run-rule victories against Whittier, winning the first game 10-1 in 5 innings and the second game 9-1 in 6 innings.

Gizelle Pera went 4 for 8, scoring 3 runs and driving in 5 in CMS’ victories over Chapman University. The two victories push the Athenas record to 30-6, the first 30 win season in CMS Softball history.

Building The Championship Program
The CMS softball team looks toward the 2009-2010 season with great expectations. The program has improved steadily in the last few years, gaining regional prominence and for the first time in Athena softball history, breaking onto the national scene with an invitation to the National Championship Tournament in 2009.
