CMS Hosts USTA / ITA West Regional
CMS' Alex Lane (JR - Claremont, CA) and the team of Zhenya Pereverzin (SO - Clackamas, OR) and Brandon Wei (SR - Lake Oswego, OR) are the top seeds respectively in singles and doubles for this weekend's USTA / ITA West Regional Championships. The Stags have 11 singles players and 5 doubles teams in the 64 singles draw and 32 team doubles draw.
In the singles draw two other Stags are seeded behind Lane. Freshman Warren Wood (Del Mar, CA) is seeded fifth, while last year's singles finalist Alex Johnson (JR - Thousand Oaks, CA), who finished the 2011 season ranked #10 in the west and #31 nationally, is seeded sixth.
In the doubles, Lane and Wood are seeded #3, joining top seeds Pereverzin-Wei. Both teams are first time partnerships featuring players with impressive doubles resumes. Lane and Wei were the Stags #2 pair last spring, compiling an impressive 22-5 mark together. Pereverzin partnered 2011 graduate Ronald Wu as CMS' #1 team, advancing all the way to the NCAA doubles championship match last May. As a high school senior, Wood partnered (current Yale freshman) Daniel Faierman to win the Boys 18s Southern California Doubles Sectionals title less than a year ago.
Tournament play begins this Friday September 30 at 9:00 AM, with the final matches concluding Sunday afternoon, October 2. The singles and doubles winners of the USTA/ITA Division III Men's West Regional Championships advance to the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships in Mobile, Alabama October 13-16.
This weekend's USTA/ITA Regional at the Claremont Colleges has been selected by the USTA Southern California section as its Adopt A Regional, and will feature a 10 and Under Quickstart clinic open to the public on Sunday morning.
