Stags Win SCIAC Home Opener
The CMS Stags opened their season with a 3-2 victory over the
Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran. CMS freshmen David Taylor (Brookline, MA)
netted his first goal of the season after breaking behind Cal
Lutheran’s defense. Shortly after Taylor’s goal, the
Stags put away their second goal when Marshal Fisher (JR, Des
Moines, IA) received a ball across the eighteen from outside
midfielder Ian Anderson (JR, San Francisco, CA). The Stags went
into halftime confidently with a 2-0, but the Kingsmen refused to
let down.
In the 62nd minute, Raul Yepez (FR, Oxnard, CA) dribbled down the
center of the field and fired a shot that ricocheted off a CMS
defender into the back of the net. Yepez had a chance to even the
game at 2-2 after a controversial penalty kick was awarded, but he
sent the shot over the crossbar. The Stags tacked on another goal
when Harrison Doyle (FR, Hidden Hills, CA) received a
‘cheeky’ back heel pass from Jared Bernstein(FR, Los
Gatos, Ca) and slotted the ball into the Kingsman’s empty
net. Unfortunately, the Stags let down allowing the Kingsmen to
score the last goal in the 90th minute.
