Lacey Earns Double-Double in Win at Whittier
WHITTIER, CA -- A 27-point Stag lead proved to be too much for Whittier (10-12, 4-8 SCIAC) to handle as CMS (19-4, 11-1 SCIAC) cruised to a 67-54 victory Wednesday at Dave Jacobs Court in Whittier. The Stags continue their great performance in the SCIAC conference having won six straight and 11 of their last 12 games.
In the first half, the Poets had a very hard time converting on offense as they shot a dismal 6-23 from the field. The Stags took advantage of this by shooting 54.5% and extending their lead to 27 at the half. The Poets were able to get back into somewhat of a shooting rhythm and ended the second half shooting 43% and scoring 14 more second-half points than the Stags, but the 27 point lead was too much to overcome.
Junior Patrick Lacey (Orangevale [pictured]) earned a double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing a game-high ten rebounds. Joseph Anderson (SO, Lafayette) also scored in double-figures with ten points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double. Chris Blees (JR, Carmichael) contributed by scoring a game-high 18 points which included a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.
The Stags hope to avenge their only SCIAC loss of the season when play hosts to 6th street-rival Pomona-Pitzer (11-12, 7-5 SCIAC) on Saturday, February 20. The Sagehens are currently tied with Cal Lutheran (13-10, 7-5 SCIAC) for the fourth and final spot in the SCIAC tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
