Reserves Shine, Roll Past Caltech

Claremont, CA - The Stags' (9-1, 17-4) defensive pressure was too much for the winless Beavers, as the Stags easily handled Caltech (0-10, 0-21) 96-28. The win keeps CMS atop of the SCIAC standings and one game in front of Redlands, who won a close overtime game at Pomona-Pitzer 73-67.

The Beavers were able to keep the game close for the first few minutes, keeping the score at 9-7.  However, the Beavers could not withstand the Stag's full court press and had a very difficult time converting on offense, as most of their shots were either contested or hurried.

The Stags converted a season high 36 field goals, 12 three-pointers, and grabbed 51 rebounds. Because of the Stags' early lead (50-13 by halftime), most of their starters only clocked-in ten minutes on the court, which gave the Stag reserves plenty of minutes to accumulate big numbers.

Kevin Macpherson (SO, Beaverton, OR [pictured]) was one reserve who took advantage of the opportunity by scoring a team high 15 points, which included a 5-6 shooting night from the three point arch, a season high for the Stags.  Greyson Blue (FR, Kirkland, WA) also had a productive night on the boards, grabbing 12 rebounds; and Matt Richardson (SO, Belmont) led the game in steals with three. In all, the Stag reserves contributed 81 points, ten steals, and 41 rebounds in the game.

The Stags will be on the road for three of their remaining four regular season games. Their next game will be on Saturday, February 13th at La Verne. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30PM.
